The wait is over for the new Tesla Model X SUV. Originally forecast to be available in 2013, the new model finally made its debut at the end of September 2015. Why the delay? Well, multiple reasons were cited but among them were the technical challenges, including the innovative falcon-wing doors. (And they are seriously cool to see in action.)
The Tesla Model X is a luxury family-oriented SUV with seven seats, an enormous windshield that has a panoramic view for riders, pedestal seats that give more leg room, front doors that open as the driver approaches, a 17-speaker sound system, falcon-wing doors that allow one to standup when entering and exiting the care, and of course there is the pure power – the car goes from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds!
It’s pricey. The base model starts at under $100,000 and has all-wheel drive and a 90 kWh battery that provides an estimated range of 250 miles. With add-ons, the price easily reaches $132,000.
But if you want to order one, get in line. Wait time for the new model is estimated at eight to 12 months.
